Buffalo wings are one of my favorite foods, so I though why not figure out how to make a "buffalo wing" burger, emulating the flavors of a basket of buffalo with a cup of blue cheese dressing for dipping. Plus, bacon never hurts the flavor of any dish, especially a burger. Not only is ground turkey breast leaps and bounds healthier than ground chuck typically used for burgers, I think the poultry flavor lends itself to being more similar to buffalo wings. Using low fat blue cheese and low-sodium bacon, you can enjoy this burger guilt free.
What you need:
1.3 lbs lean ground turkey breast1/4 cup hot sauce
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tbsp dried parsley
2 tsp paprika
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp black pepper
~2-3 oz crumbled low fat blue cheese, divided in 4 portions
8 slices of low-sodium bacon, cooked
4 hamburger buns
4 romaine lettuce leaves
Vegetable oil
Large cast iron skillet
What you do:
Cook until well done. |
2. Form 8 small, thin patties by rolling into a small ball and flattening with the palm of your hand.
3. Spoon equal portions of divided blue cheese into the center of 4 patties. Top each of the 4 blue-cheese stuffed patties with another thin (non-stuffed) patty and press sides together to seal blue cheese inside.
4. Heat small amount of oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add stuffed burger patties. Cook on each side for 6-8 minutes, or until well-done and nicely browned on each side.
5. Place each burger on a bun, top with lettuce, two slices of bacon, and enjoy!
Optional: Top your burger with ranch or blue cheese dressing for added buffalo wing flavor.
